The toothbrush with the reservoir

protected utility model no. 11561  and patent no. 292781

Technical field

The toothbrush reservoir comprises of a fitting, which is ended on one side by the head with bristles and on the other side is modified for its connection with the reservoir. In the fitting there is a longitudial passable duct with at least one outlet in the head area and the reservoir with horizontal piston which is connected with the control mechanism and provided with stabilization components of piston position.

Present state

Nowadays there are several types of toothbrushes. There are especially the classical ones comprising a handle with bristles where toothpaste is put on by squeezing out of the toothpaste. The disadvantage of these toothbrushes is dropping off the toothpaste during manipulation, especially by small children. Another disadvantage is rather long and uncomfortable manipulation with paste. When we use them we have to use two items, paste and the toothbrush, which is inconvenient especially during travelling.

Another type of toothbrush for one application that is put with already prepared paste in a cover. During long journey we need too many of them which is very expensive. There are also toothbrushes with reservoir for toothpaste. The toothpaste is delivered to the bristles by complicated mechanism, that is sometimes combined with an applicator. In the last type of it there is toothpaste which is put in a pressure aerosol reservoir, that must be smashed through for delivering paste.

The disadvantage of these types is usually their difficult construction. They are too expensive to produce and have higher susceptibility to failure. These toothbrushes are not suitable for small children, because they could hurt themselves when manipulating with them. If they are not provided with suitable medium preventing against drying up of paste, the toothpaste dries out and it becomes much more difficult to use.

Technical conception

Above mentioned disadvantages could be removed by the new toothbrush reservoir that consist of a fitting, which is ended on one side by a head with bristles and on the other side is modified for its connection with the reservoir. In the fitting, there is a longitudial passable duct with at least one outlet in the head. There is the reservoir with horizontal piston which is connected with the control mechanism and provided with stabilization components of piston position made according to the technical conception. It is based on a control mechanism with a flexible connecting item of a constant length which is on one side connected with a piston and/or with stabilization elements which goes through the hole in a cover and on the other side is connected with a control for delivering paste to the bristles, when the control device is horizontally moveable on the cover part.

The cover could be made as one item and a flexible connecting item then goes through the hole in the back part of this item.

The reservoir consists of a cover, which is closed by a cap on the back side, then the flexible connecting item goes through the hole between the cover and the cap.

The flexible connecting item is put on the top of the cover in grooves tightly fixed with the cover.

Alternatively the flexible connecting item is put in the grooves on the top of the cover.

To prevent any deviation of a flexible connecting item on the back side of the cover, there is a thrust item which is placed in the cover and it is touching the flexible connecting item.

The thrust item consists of a stick placed vertically to the horizontal axis of the reservoir cover, where the connecting item is placed between the stick and a attachment of the cover.

Stabilizators of the position of the piston towards the cover of the reservoir consists of at least three supporting columns that are connected with the piston and arranged in the way that outer edges tightly adjoin the inner cover of the reservoir, and flexible connecting item comprises a strap that is horizontally flexible and tightly fixed by columns.

As we want to pull out only necessary amount of the toothpaste, there is a spring-loaded item between the control and the outer part of the cover that is led horizontally and in which there are holes for dosing the toothpaste.

To prevent any possible drying of the toothpaste, the toothbrush has got the cover for the bristles, which is provided with at least one cover head and at least one vent.

The advantage of the toothbrush reservoir is according to the technical construction rather simple construction of the control mechanism for pulling, respectively dosing of the toothpaste to the bristles. After discharge of the toothpaste it can be easily filled again. Thus, it is suitable for small children. The toothbrush is provided with the cover of the bristles that prevents toothpaste from drying out and at the same time makes ventilation possible. The cover is easy to put on the bristles and is protected against dropping off. The other advantage is the possibility for changing of the fitting with the bristles, which is helpfull after the wearing out of the bristles and during travelling, when one reservoir can be used with other attachments.

Examples of technical problems solution

The toothbrush reservoir comprises of a fitting (1) which is ended on one side by the head (2) with bristles (3) and on the other side it is modified for its connection with the reservoir (4) e.g. by a screw connection.

There is a channel (6) in the brush body (see fig.8) with opening (7) in the head (2) between   the bristles. The toothpaste reservoir consists of a cover (8), inside the hollow is the piston (10) connected to governing mechanism and supported by stabilizator (10) ( see fig. 1 ). The cross cut of the reservoir in the fig. 3 is a circle. It can be an oval shape or other. The shape of the piston and support is then of corresponding shape.

The front part (11) of body (8) of the reservoir is done in such a way that it can be connected to the bristle body and a tube of toothpaste for re-filling.

The stabilization elements of the piston position consist of four support ribs (13) connected to the piston and tightly sliding inside the cover (8). The stabilization of the piston can be provided in other ways too, which support extruding. This way keeps the piston in correct way while sliding inside.

The controlling mechanism of the piston movement is a flexible cable  (15) made of a cable or a flat piece of material. Cable is connected to the piston on one side going through apperture (16) and to the activator (17). The cable can run inside of the body which is one piece (fig.1) or from two pieces with the detachable rear end (fig.2). The cable runs in guiding slides inside or outside the reservoir and is further guided by guiding button (23). Cable runs between button (23) and a pad in the bottom of body (8).

In order to be able to dose toothpaste to the brush head evenly, there is a flexible member (25) between the governor (17) and the body. A ball can adjust stepwise movement of the governor by clicking into little recesses in the groove (see fig. 3).

The bristle cover (28) prevents a cleaning medium from drying out while the toothbrush is not in use. A plug (29) inside the cover seals the paste outlet. There is a vent in the cover. Cover is attached to bristle head by flexible walls (fig.8 and 9).

Toothbrush filling:

The reservoir is filled by toothpaste tube through aperture. Paste is sucked in by movement governor (17). When the reservoir is full, the bristle body is attached (screw on), then a cleaning medium is dosed in by moving the activator (17). Clean the brush and attach bristle body cover and seal the outlet of paste in the bristle body. Paste will not dry out. After using out the content of the reservoir, fill it up again the same way.

It is controlled by the control member (17), the toothpaste is sucked in the hollow (9) of the reservoir (4). Then the cover (12) of the spare toothpaste is put away and the fitting (1) with the bristles (3) is put on instead. The dosing of paste to the bristles (3) is again done by the control member (17). After cleaning, the cover (28) is put on the head (2) with the bristles (3) to prevent paste from the drying out in the opening (7), respectively in a longitudial duct (6). When the toothpaste is expended, the reservoir (4) is filled again as it is described above.
